Instructions
This is a finals only competition based on state meet competition. In effect, it is a head-head competition between winners from each of the 7 state competition divisions to determine the overall best performer. Each event will consist of 8 competitors. Winners from each of the State meet divisions are invited to participate, plus the next best performance across divisions. If a winner is not able to compete, then the next best performance from all divisions is invited. Competition positions are continually filled so that there are 8 competitors per event.
Because of the tight schedule, an athlete may participate in only one event. Multiple event winners at their state division may select their event preference. For non-selected events, the position is open to the next best performances from all divisions.
Example: One individual boy wins the 100, 200, and 400 at State 1A. If he selects the 400 for his event at the MOC, then the 100 and 200 slots are chosen from the best performances across all divisions.
It is important for the finalist from each event at 5A, 4A, and 3A to register their intent to participate at MOC before end of the 4x400 at state. The top 3 finishers at 1A and 2A are encouraged to register as well. If performances at small school state competitions are particularly good this year, then each athlete achieving an excellent performance should register.
A table or section in the stands will be set aside at the three state meet sites for registration. It is mandatory to register at that time. We plan to have the final competition roster finalized by Tuesday evening, May 16th. Each participant at MOC will receive a gift bag from the meet sponsor, Sports Chalet. Awards are to be presented to all finishers. Special MVP awards will be presented at the end of the meet based on the quality of performance.
Athletes are expected to wear their school uniforms to the competition. If that is not possible, then appropriate attire will be expected.
No relays are being contested this first year – only individual events.
This Arizona Meet of Champions is the first of what we hope are decades of state season-end competitions. We are pleased that Sports Chalet has committed to sponsor the event for the first three years.
